Information officer Andy Adame, from the Border Patrol Tucson sector says, “I guarantee it’s not true.”
However, seasoned Border Patrol field agents have shared some disturbing information with the Tumbleweed as well as other civilian sources with the hope the information will make it to the general public.
The Tumbleweed has verified information that a flood of middle-eastern males have been caught entering the country illegally east of Douglas, Arizona. The increased patrols in the Huachuca Mountains area of Cochise County, seems to have diverted the flow of OTM’s, “other than Mexicans” east to the Chiricahua Mountains.
Adame, who says many of the agents in the area are “green”, questions why they would have shared the information with the Tumbleweed or any other source.

Here are some highlights of the article:

"This is an election year. I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote," she said by phone. "I'm not telling them how to vote. I'm saying, get information about the issues."

Talk about getting someone's head out of something. Her's is so far up her butt she performs her own colonoscopy.

Ronstadt's scrap in Vegas comes within days of Elton John complaining that singers are pressured to eschew political commentary. A few weeks ago, Neil Youg bemoaned the music industry's impulse to neuter political songs.

This is how out of touch these idiots are. It's the fans who don't want to hear their crap. Their egos are so gigantic that they can't grasp this simple concept.

"I know it's hard for an audience. . . . If I go to a show and if I find out someone is a right wing Christian or a Republican, and I really like their show, it still puts kind of a cloud over it to know," she said. "But I've kind of got used to that. I don't particularly like to be preached to, so I've limited my remarks to just saying I think he's a great American and a great patriot, and that I recommend that they see his movie."

I've lost all respect for her, and I can't believe I just downloaded "Livin' in the USA". I'm deleting it as soon as I get home.

Ted Nugent and Toby Keith Entertain Marines at Camp Fallujah

From a USMC Captain stationed near Fallujah, on the modern-day successors to Bob Hope's USO tours:

"All,

I've finally experienced something of interest that I can write about with no concern for breaching our operational security. Recently, Ted Nugent and Toby Keith came out to Camp Fallujah as part of their multi-stop, month long USO tour. Yes, you heard it right: Ted Nugent, Mr. Cat Scratch Fever himself, and Toby Keith, America's post-9/11 Leading Country Man played to a packed house of Marines and sailors at Camp Fallujah from 2330 until
0100 the next morning. Their schedule was rigorous; before their late-night arrival, they spent the last night in Afghanistan, stopped over in Baghdad, played a show at another base, and then came out to Camp Fallujah before leaving for yet another show. When they arrived at our base, they had only slept briefly on an airplane for the past 36 hours.

In this environment overseas, it's difficult to understand what would motivate someone to travel thousands of miles and risk their lives simply to entertain. Being a natural skeptic, I figured it was mostly a publicity stunt. Now, having experienced it from the end of someone involved in the backstage planning, and having seen these guys up close and personal, I've got a different and very positive perspective.

Most of the crowd out here was interested in an opportunity to see and meet Toby Keith. It may sound funny, but sometimes I forget a bit what it's like to be a young Marine... half of these kids out here were just heading off to boot camp when Keith penned his ode to patriotism and payback "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" that received so much airplay after 9/11. For my part, I've long respected Nugent's ardent pro-American and pro-environment stances. A lover of the outdoors, Nugent has passionately lived and expressed the ideal that every human being has a moral responsibility to live their lives in order to "be the best they can be". He is often quoted saying that he expects his friends, his associates, and even his children to "live their lives like Marines." His vision of the American dream combined with his opinions and lifestyle choices made him uncommon among the Hollywood crowd over the years.

Because of his recent popularity with the younger Marines, the MEF Headquarters Group had a long list of volunteers willing to escort Toby Keith. However, only a handful of Marines - mostly the "30 or over" crowd -
had ever even heard of the guy we began simply calling "The Nuge". Since I had an interest, I became a liaison officer assisting the entourage and escorting Ted while he was onboard the Camp.

Typical of all matters involving any military operation, nothing happened according to plan. The helicopters landed in the Landing Zone (LZ) right at 2215. One problem: they were the wrong helos... the VIPs had been delayed, and nobody knew when, or if, they were coming in. One show had already been cancelled that day, and the original schedule had placed the VIP party at their overnight site by 2200. I figured they probably wouldn't show up; after all, these guys were celebrities who needed to be taken care of, right? Certainly their handlers would force them to get their beauty sleep, wouldn't they?

Around 2330, we heard the distinctive whirring of inbound helicopters, and a pair of Army Blackhawks screamed down into the LZ. In the glow of a nearly-full moon, I approached the LZ hoping these were our guys... I knew there were a couple thousand people back at one of our buildings whose morale had skyrocketed at the thought of watching the pair perform. After the LZ landed, a figure in a pair of baggy trousers, a t-shirt, and a scruffy beard jumped out of the Blackhawk and wondered out in the general direction. Even though the man wore civilian clothes, I wasn't sure if we had our team... this guy could have been a reporter, or had any number of reasons for his style of clothing. Besides, he seemed to be the only one walking off the bird. Celebrities wouldn't just stroll around in a war zone... would they? It had to be a stagehand or something.

The figure approached me in the dark and pumped my hand; in the shadows, I still couldn't see his face. "Hey man, I'm Toby Keith." Roger that. Welcome to Camp Fallujah, Mr. Keith.

Keith looked over his shoulder and gave a thumbs-up to the rest of the posse, along with the international hand-and-arm signal for "follow me"... clearly he was a driving force in the entire operation. The entourage moved off the bird and over to our escort party. The Nuge was a little further back in the crowd; we shook hands and both he and Toby immediately began engaging the Marines in photo-ops, handshakes, and we're-so-damn-proud-of-yous to the Marines standing by for security. Nobody was here to see this. There was no red carpet, no news reporters, and the Public Affairs Office hadn't started snapping their photos yet. These guys weren't looking for a photo op; they were out here standing around in shorts and t-shirts and jeans high-fiving Marines on a dusty LZ for only one reason: they cared. And it showed. Once things settled down and we were ready to drive from the LZ to the concert area, Nugent took a seat in a Humvee and I sat down next to him. We chatted briefly about a few things, but I had a bigger concern: after inquiring about the state of his hunger, it turned out The Nuge hadn't had any chow for several hours. I knew refreshments were set up at the backstage area, but I also realized these guys would be mobbed. The thing of it is... they expected it. And they really didn't care. They wouldn't sleep until 0300 at the earliest, and they knew they'd be back onstage at 0800 the next day. So, I did what any Marine of any rank would have done in the same situation: I ripped open a couple of MREs, rifled through them, and grabbed the items that were easiest to eat in a hurry.

The Nuge was impressed: "Yeah man! Improvise, adapt, and overcome, baby!!"

As a Marine, I couldn't help but enjoy being around someone whose wild side is well-advertised, but who takes such unabashed pride in pouring their heart and soul into their life. One of the doors on the Humvee kept slipping ajar, and in a move reminiscent of any Lance Corporal, Ted whipped out his Gerber multi-tool and jimmied with the hinge until it was fixed to his satisfaction. Furthermore, Ted kept telling me that if we took incoming, "my Glock 10 is loaded and I'm ready to rock and roll!" Being well inside the perimeter of our base; Nugent and his Glock 10 probably wouldn't do much against a mortar or rocket attack. I made a mental note that if anything happened, I would have to dive on top of The Nuge and pin him down, if for no other reason than to keep him from endangering my Marines or himself (rock star or not, Marines don't react well to weapons pointed in their direction).

The show itself was a huge success. Toby and "Uncle Ted" obviously enjoyed being together and playing together; Nugent wisecracked they were "just like Lennon and McCartney, only with guns!" It was amazing to see: two major stars accustomed to performing in ornate stadiums and with sound systems that would blow the ears off a dozen jumbo elephants, standing around on a bare stage with nothing but two acoustic guitars and two microphones. They hadn't showered in about three days. There was no manager, no make-up person, and no costume changes. It was clear that these two entertainers were saying thanks not only by playing for Marines, but by playing for Marines on Marine terms. They were tired, hungry, and dirty. But they were enjoying every minute of it. And so were we.

Ted and I chatted more after the show, and I got a picture snapped with him before he and Toby Keith jumped back onto the Blackhawk at 0145. Nugent isn't a man who is shy about his opinion, and even in the times when I found myself generally agreeing with his points, I could see how people who pride themselves on being refined or intellectual would be put off by his brash and aggressive nature. For me... well, Marines are aggressive by nature, and Ted fit in with our crowd just fine.

As I waved goodbye and reflected on my time with The Nuge, I realized I didn't remember much of his music. I'm sure most of his songs were grand odes to wine, women, and song. I don't know if he ever sang anything that exuded nobility. But I know this: Ted Nugent and Toby Keith earned my respect as men tonight. The pair of entertainers, their assistants, and two USO workers set foot in a war zone where anything could happen; they knew they could be attacked at any time. For these civilians, that risk was worth the reward of expressing the gratitude of America towards those sent into harm's way. They did it because they cared.

Thanks guys. You can rock and roll with us any time. But, Ted, if you plan to come back, bring a rifle instead of a Glock and stay a couple of days. It sounds to me like we need to work you into the watch rotation out on the
perimeter.

(Columbia-AP) May 27, 2004 - South Carolina Representatives were outraged Thursday when Governor Mark Sanford carried two piglets under his arms to the House chamber to protest fast action by lawmakers to override his budget vetoes.

Minority Leader James Smith (D-Dist. 72) on Wednesday defended the House votes, "There are core essential services that affect the quality of life for many South Carolinians that were severely undermined by the governor's veto."

Reasonable minds can differ on foreign policy. But Michael Moore fans repeat trite talking points with the intellectual stimulation of "99 bottles of beer on the wall." We must still endure 165 days until the presidential election, plus 40 days after that for hanging chads, usurping judges, and thumping histrionics on electoral votes. I may watch "Friends" reruns just to step up to inane. However, pointing out the flaws in the leftist war phrases will be to my weary brain what Tagamet is to heart burn.

ESPN SCRUBS HUNTER S. THOMPSON BUSH BASH

Hunter S. Thompson's ESPN column was scrubbed of controversy late Monday afternoon when online editors worried the famed gonzo journalist had gone too far.

In a column entitled, "Let's Go to the Olympics," Thompson went off on the Abu Ghraib prison picture scandal, exclaiming: "Not even the foulest atrocities of Adolf Hitler ever shocked me so badly as these [Abu Ghraib] photographs did."

But after being linked to the DRUDGE REPORT, a top editor demanded the sentence be immediately edited --without Thompson's okay, according to an ESPN.com staffer.

"Hunter can go too far sometimes," the Bristol-based ESPN employee told the DRUDGE REPORT.

The cleansed paragraph now reads:

"These horrifying digital snapshots of the American dream in action on foreign soil are worse than anything even I could have expected. I have been in this business a long time and I have seen many staggering things, but this one is over the line.

As with the original, Thompson still concludes with the thought: "Now I am really ashamed to carry an American passport."

train to the Super Bowl. At the station, George and Laura each buy a
ticket and watch as Bill and Hilary buy just one ticket.

"How are the two of you going to travel on only one ticket?"
asks George W.

"Watch and learn," answers Hilary.

They all board the train. George and Laura take their respective seats but Bill and Hilary cram into a toilet together and close the

Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, "Ticket, please."

The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in
hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.

The Bushes see this happen and agree it was quite a clever
idea, so after the game they decide to try a similar plan on the return trip.

When they get to the station they see the Clintons at the window buying a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the Clintons see that the Bushes don't buy any ticket at all.

"Aren't you taking a terrible chance by traveling without a
ticket?", says Hilary.

Last week, John S. Carroll, editor of the Los Angeles Times, delivered a lecture during "Ethics Week" of the Society of Professional Journalists. The speaker has not yet been announced for "Abstinence Week" of the Society of Professional Whores.

Showing the fierce independence of the mainstream media, Carroll's speech was yet another liberal rant about the threat to freedom and democracy posed by the Fox News Channel. Carroll cited the hoax poll liberals quote every 10 minutes that purports to show people who watch Fox News are ignorant retards.

The poll was taken by the "Program on International Policy Attitudes," which specializes in polling Americans about pointless little factoids loved by liberals. One PIPA poll, for example, asked whether "so far this year, more Israelis or more Palestinians have died in the conflict, or is the number roughly equal?" To the shock and dismay of the researchers, "only 32 percent of respondents were aware that more deaths have occurred on the Palestinian side than on the Israeli side."

There was no poll question about which group was more likely to die as a result of suicide bombings against innocent civilians and which as a result of strategic strikes against known terrorists. During World War II, PIPA would have been issuing indignant press releases announcing that "only 32 percent of respondents are aware Hitler is kind to his dog."

The most famous PIPA poll claims to demonstrate that "the Fox News audience showed the highest average rate of misperceptions" about the war with Iraq -- by which they mean "misperceptions of pointless liberal factoids about the war with Iraq." You say the average American can't regurgitate liberal talking points on command? Well, I'll be darned! And the public schools are trying so hard!

The poll asked questions like this: "Is it your impression that the U.S. has or has not found clear evidence in Iraq that Saddam Hussein was working closely with the al-Qaida terrorist organization?" Sixty-seven percent of Fox News Channel viewers said the United States had found evidence of a link. Liberals view this as a "misperception."

Admittedly the evidence may not be as "clear" as the evidence proving a link between Osama bin Laden and Halliburton, but among other evidence connecting Iraq to al-Qaida, consider just these three items.

Last year papers were found in Iraqi intelligence headquarters documenting Saddam's feverish efforts to establish a working relationship with al-Qaida. In response to Iraq's generous invitation to pay all travel and hotel expenses, a top aide to Osama bin Laden visited Iraq in 1998, bearing a message from bin Laden. The meeting went so well that bin Laden's aide stayed for a week. Iraq intelligence officers sent a message back to bin Laden, the documents note, concerning "the future of our relationship."

In addition, according to Czech intelligence, a few months before the 9-11 attacks, Mohammed Atta met with Iraqi intelligence agents in Prague.

Finally, a Clinton-appointed federal judge, U.S. District Court judge Harold Baer, has made a legal finding that Iraq was behind the 9-11 attacks -- a ruling upheld by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals last October. When some judge discovers a right to gay marriage in a 200-year-old document written by John Adams, Americans are forced to treat the decision like the God-given truth. But when a federal judge issues a decision concluding that Iraq was behind the 9-11 attacks, it is a "misperception" being foisted on the nation by Fox New Channel.

Interestingly, liberals refuse to believe Czech intelligence on the Prague meeting ... because the CIA doesn't believe it. Apparently, this is the lone, singular assertion by the CIA that liberals wholeheartedly trust. The CIA also concluded that evidence of WMDs in Iraq was -- in the words of CIA director George Tenet -- a "slam dunk case." But liberals hysterically denounce that CIA conclusion as a "misperception" created by Fox News Channel.

Thus another question in the PIPA poll was this: "Since the war with Iraq ended, is it your impression that the U.S. has or has not found Iraqi weapons of mass destruction?" Thirty-three percent of Fox News viewers said they believed the U.S. had found WMDs, compared to only 11 percent of those smart NPR listeners. (How about asking NPR listeners which kills more children -- handguns or buckets?)

By "weapons of mass destruction," what liberals mean is: missiles pointed at Washington, D.C., with their "Ready to Fire" lights blinking ominously and their warhead payloads clearly marked "Weapons of Mass Destruction! Next Stop, The Great Satan America!" -- basically what you might see on an episode of the original Batman TV series. When we didn't find that, the "Bush lied, kids died!" screaming began.

David Kay's report said we hadn't found "stockpiles" of WMDs in Iraq, but we have found:

-- chemical and biological weapons systems, plans, "recipes" and equipment, all of which could have resumed production on a moment's notice with Saddam's approval;

-- reference strains of a wide variety of biological-weapons agents (found in the home of a prominent Iraqi biological warfare scientist);

-- new research on brucella and Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever, and continuing work on ricin and aflatoxin;

-- a prison laboratory complex for testing biological weapons on humans;

-- long-range missiles (prohibited by United Nations resolutions) suitable for delivering WMDs;

-- documents showing Saddam tried to obtain long-range ballistic missiles from North Korea;

-- facilities for manufacturing fuel propellant useful only for prohibited Scud-variant missiles.

Sorry to bore Fox News viewers with these facts. I'm doing it as a favor to readers of the Los Angeles Times.

WASHINGTON, May 4 — The Walt Disney Company is blocking its Miramax division from distributing a new documentary by Michael Moore that harshly criticizes President Bush, executives at both Disney and Miramax said Tuesday.

The film, "Fahrenheit 911," links Mr. Bush and prominent Saudis — including the family of Osama bin Laden — and criticizes Mr. Bush's actions before and after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Moore will blame Bush for this because of Bush's strong ties with the Disney regime. You know, I hear that right after 9/11, they put Mickey on Dumbo and sent him to Neverland after all the flights were supposedly grounded.

If you are trying to take control of the city, overwhelming force is going to be required.

Of course, that leaves the question of whether we should be there in the first place.

And that's where my dilemma comes into play. I believe that once we commit to war, all bets are off. You use overwhelming force and pound an enemy into submission. So - since we are already in over our heads in Iraq - this kind of attack is inevitable. But, we should never have had to face this choice.

You can't negotiate with these people. I wouldn't even give them "hours" and then... can you say "air-strikes".

I hope the black community is as outraged over this remark as I am. Comparing them to a people who want to blow us up is an insult.

Jermaine, a convert to Islam and dressed in white Arab garb, has been speaking about Islam and U.S. "adventures" in Iraq to enthusiastic audiences at Koranic centers and universities in the Gulf Arab state of Bahrain.

"I think Muslims have become the new Negroes in America. They are being mistreated at airports, by the Immigration -- everywhere," he said.

Quite the opposite. They aren't being mistreated at all.

Jermaine, also a singer, told Reuters in an interview: "I do not agree with the U.S. government. What they are saying about Muslims and Arabs is all propaganda and brainwashing."

"I don't think it is right for us to go to someone else's country and tell them what to do and how to do it," said Jermaine, who is a guest of the royal court in the pro-Western kingdom, which hosts the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet.

So I guess he'd rather keep the fight over here instead of taking it to the enemy.

He disapproved of Muslim extremism, which has been on the rise in the wake of the U.S. occupation of Iraq last year.

"I understand their feelings but do not approve of their methods. Islam is a religion of peace. They are wrong," he said.

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Rep. Charles Rangel branded the Iraqi war a "death tax" on America's poor and minorities in a speech Thursday criticizing the Bush administration's foreign policy.

The congressman said about a quarter of those killed in action so far have been black or Hispanic, and are drawn to the military as a way out of economic hardship.

That sounds about right since according to a 2000 census 12% of the U.S. population is hispanic, and a 2002 census that says that 13 % are black.

Baxter, a studio musician who's backed the likes of Ringo Starr, Sting and Barbra Streisand, joined the Star Wars civilian advisory board after writing a paper on the subject in his spare time. The paper was passed on by a friend, U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), whom he met at former California Gov. Pete Wilson's inaugural while chatting about human rights in Burma.

A charge the network strongly denies.

A Chicago source familiar with the situation said a Multicultural representative showed up at WNTD's offices Wednesday morning, kicked out Air America's lone staffer overseeing the network's feed to the station from New York, switched over to a Spanish-language feed, and changed the locks on the doors...

Air America filed a complaint Wednesday in New York state Supreme Court charging Multicultural with breaching their contract and seeking an injunction to force Multicultural to restore the Air America broadcast on both stations.

How dare Muticultural Radio Broadcasting! If they know what's good for them (and who knows what's best for everyone better than liberals) they'll let these thugs back on the air or else!

WASHINGTON — Mounting casualties and growing guerrilla resistance. Skepticism about the justification for going to war in the first place. No clear strategy for finishing the job and coming home.

The media and the Dems love comparing the war on terror to Vietnam. The media does it to sell news. The Dems do it to make Bush look bad. They know it's not even close to Vietnam, but they just can't help themselves.

They are the only party that can lie and get away with it. They lie, we know they lie, they know that we know that they lie, and then they accuse us of lying. It boggles the mind.

I agree with Bush when he said in last night's speech that comparing Iraq to Vietnam "sends the wrong message to our troops and sends the wrong message to the enemy."
It emboldens the enemy. Gives them more of a reason to fight, and it kills the morale of our troops.
Does Kerry care? Hell no... He just wants to say whatever it takes to get him elected.

I've been a Blue Oyster Cult fan for almost 30 years now, and today I was on Buck Dharma's web page and happened to go into the forums. I clicked on the politics thread and to my suprise I found out that Buck's a GWB man! Here is the link to his website, and here are the forums.

He was responding to the "And the war -- not the war, I don't want to use that terminology." statement that kerry made the other day. Here is what he said;

Family, friends question Sumter police fatal shooting

(Sumter) April 12, 2004 - Nearly a dozen Sumter residents gathered Monday night to discuss how minorities are treated by local police.

Delma Smith told News 10 the meeting comes at a perfect time. She claims she recently was a victim of racial profiling, "A Highway Patrol stopped me for no reason, had her hand over her gun, it was a female, and asked me what was I doing out that time of night."

Concern about the topic sparked after a deadly shootout that left a police officer injured and a 20-year-old man dead. Investigators say March 31st, Arthur Tips led police on a low-speed chase through Sumter after receiving a call he was fighting with his girlfriend. His two young children were in the car. Sumter Police Chief Patti Patterson says Tips stopped near a field and got out of the car, "He was holding the infant in one arm and shooting with the other."

I can understand not shooting at the guy because of the children. I'd be upset about that too. But where do they see racial profiling here? This piece of scum was using his own baby as a shield.

WASHINGTON April 12 — Liberal interest groups are running television ads meant to hurt President Bush and, in effect, help Democratic rival John Kerry. But some media strategists say such efforts could backfire by muddying Kerry's message of the moment with the electorate.
Interest groups can't legally coordinate advertising with political campaigns. That means their ads could address different issues than Kerry's commercials, be nastier than his advisers prefer, clutter the airwaves, stray from obvious themes the economy and national security or politicize issues Kerry would rather leave alone.

The catch-phrase here is "message of the moment". In other words, they don't want MoveOn.org to flip while Kerry's flopping. And besides, if anybody's gonna muddy up Kerry's message, it's gonna be Kerry. He needs no help at all.

Bush promised to be a uniter, not a divider, yet America is more divided than ever. The very fact that more and more people disagree with me every day proves it.

There was a time, not so long ago, when I could stand in the center of the UC Berkeley Campus, wipe my backside with the U.S. flag, and be met with warm embraces by people who appreciate the value of patriotic dissent. Then right around September of 2001, something mysterious happened that changed everything. Now I can barely get ol' glory up my @sscrack before I'm pounded into the asphalt by a gang of angry jarheads. What gives? Whatever happened to the good ol' days when I could stand out in front of the Army Base, waving a sign that reads "Baby Killing Facists Go Home!" without being called "unpatriotic"? Iraqi militants are today threatening to burn three foreign hostages to death unless their country quits the US-led coalition.

Two Japanese men and one woman are being held by a previously unknown group which has vowed to kill them if Japanese soldiers do not leave Iraq. Elsewhere, seven South Koreans are being held hostage west of Baghdad by an unknown group, while a British man has been reported missing in the south.

I think it's time to ramp up "major combat operations" again.

On Right Thinking From the Left Coast the other day somebody said " Why do we have to play by the rules when everyone else doesn't?" and I commented back, "Because like it or not, that's what separates us from these animals. If we do that then we've lost."
To which someone else replied "That's OUR perception. Chances are, Fallujah's inhabitants don't share that same view, and don't really care whether we really are better."

The more I think about it, the more I agree with both of them. Those militants only understand and respect force & violence. I think they're going to have to be weaned (or killed) off of it and into democracy. And until then, we're going to have to seriously bust some heads. Napalm... nukes... pig blood... whatever it takes.

Some highlights include:

FOREIGN OPERATIONS
$18,500,000 added by the House for the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) in support of the Anglo-Irish Accord. This U.S. contribution to the fund is to be spent on “those projects that hold the greatest potential for job creation and equal opportunity for the Irish people.” Such projects have included building a replica of the Jeanie Johnston (a Canadian ship that once ferried famine victims across the Atlantic), a national water sports center used for coaching top-level athletes, golf videos, and exporting sweaters. Through war and peace, rain and shine, surplus and deficits, IFI receives funding, accumulating $439 million since 1986.

ENERGY AND WATER
$50,000,000 added in conference for an indoor rainforest project in Coralville, Iowa by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-Iowa).

AGRICULTURE
$238,000 added by the Senate for the National Wild Turkey (NWTF) Federation in Edgefield, S.C. According the group’s website, “The NWTF is a half million member grassroots, nonprofit organization with members in 50 states, Canada and 11 other foreign countries.” With 500,000 members, this organization could raise $225,000 with just another $2.22 per member. Instead, our tax dollars are going to the birds.

LABOR, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, AND EDUCATION
$14,900,000 added in conference for projects in the state of Senate Labor/HHS Appropriations subcommittee member Ernest “Fritz” Hollings (D-S.C.) and the district of House appropriator James Clyburn (D-S.C.), including: $5,000,000 for the University of South Carolina in Columbia for the Strom Thurmond Fitness and Wellness Center.
$250,000 for Clemson University for the Call Me Mister Program.

Are We Ready to Fret About Our Fries?

Golden, greasy and oh-so good, French fries are the guilty staple of the American diet. But in California, a strict right-to-know law could soon force fast-food restaurants to tell customers that the ubiquitous fries may pack something worse than fat and cholesterol: a potential carcinogen.

Health officials from Europe to Asia have wrestled with how to warn the public ever since Swedish scientists discovered that French fries contained acrylamide, a chemical known to cause cancer in laboratory rats.

Known to cause cancer when given in massive quantities. If you drink too much water, it will kill you.

Scientists don't want to stir up a super-sized food scare that might later prove unwarranted. Yet, they are alarmed by tests that are finding acrylamide in hundreds of cooked foods; from bread and potato chips to almonds and coffee.

The dilemma is heightened in California, where voter-approved Proposition 65 is supposed to trigger public notices on substances "known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm." State officials deemed acrylamide such a substance in 1990, long before it was found in food. At the time, it was known mainly as a chemical useful in treating sewage water. Concerns about human exposure were minor.

We already know that just living in California causes a large percentage of the population to develop brain damage. Studies suggest that high levels of liberalism may be the cause.

Nonetheless, private attorneys have filed a flurry of lawsuits, alleging that food vendors from McDonald's and Burger King to KFC and Wendy's should be warning the public about acrylamide. If the lawyers prevail, California could end up with warnings in countless restaurants and grocery stores saying that French fries and other foods with acrylamide might cause cancer.

"You know the thick paper containers in which they give you fries over the counter, where McDonald's has the arches and the pictures of Ronald McDonald? To me, the warnings should be right there," said Raphael Metzger, a Long Beach lawyer who sued McDonald's and Burger King. The lawsuit is pending in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Now we come to the real reason for the scare. Just follow the money trail.

Steven Milloy, an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute, says," In the first place, it's far from clear that acrylamide is at all a cancer-causing substance. Some scientists seem to have induced cancer in laboratory rats by feeding them the "maximum tolerated dose" of acrylamide — an amount just below the level the rats would be poisoned from simply eating the acrylamide.

The rats used in such experiments are bred to be genetically disposed to cancer. They are so susceptible to cancer that merely changing the amount of food they consume affects their cancer risk."

The FDA wants to find alternative cooking techniques that lower acrylamide content. At the same time, the agency is trying to assess any health risks. For the time being, it is simply advising the public to "continue eating a balanced diet" and to cook foods thoroughly to kill bacteria. The FDA might conduct a more detailed public awareness campaign in coming years to warn Americans about acrylamide.

"If we decide at the end of the day that there is a substantial risk here, that will suggest significant changes need to be made in the food supply," said Terry C. Troxell, director of the FDA's office of plant and dairy foods. "Before we do that, we have to be careful, because that could have an effect on nutrition. Before we do that, we want to make sure we have the data right."

In other words, they haven't got a clue. They just love to go around scaring the crap out of people. Milloy says, " In the study used by the EPA as the basis for its limit on acrylamide in drinking water, the lowest lifetime daily dose at which the rats had a significant increase in cancer risk was 500 micrograms (millionths of a gram) per kilogram of bodyweight.

For a 154-pound human, this equates to a lifetime daily dose of 35,000 micrograms. "

So exactly how much would we have to eat to develop cancer?

"I hope you like McDonald's French fries because you'd have to eat 486 large servings — weighing out at 182 pounds — every day for life to get the same amount of acrylamide as the EPA's lab rats. If you prefer low-fat foods, how about 5,000 one-ounce servings — weighing out at 312 pounds — of Honey Nut Cheerios per day for life? "

I think i would probably explode long before I developed cancer.

Most people would view the answer as ludicrous and unresponsive. Well, here's a passage from an Associated Press dispatch about a group of trials in lawsuits challenging the Partial-Birth Abortion Act of 2003:

In San Francisco, a chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood testified that she chooses methods of abortion that violate the new law because they are among the safest options.

Asked by a government lawyer whether the fetus exhibits pain during the procedures, Maureen Paul replied, "I have no idea what you mean."

One can acknowledge that animals are capable of feeling pain, and even favor legislation designed to discourage treating them cruelly, without endorsing the idea that they have "rights" as people do. Similarly, the right to abortion need not depend on the complete dehumanization of unborn life. As Slate's William Saletan argues, by resting their case on such dehumanization--which, as Maureen Paul's testimony illustrates, flies in the face of common sense--abortion proponents are making the pro-life case look much stronger.

Tell me, was the US justified in killing tens of thousands of Iraqis? As I said, these foreigners CHOSE to enter Iraq, WITHOUT IRAQI PERMISSION, and are determined to rape the wealth out of the country. If that means MORE Iraqis have to die, THEY DON"T CARE.

Bush Pokes Some Fun During Media Dinner

There was a bit of an uproar over this video of Pres. Bush making a few jokes at a media dinner. Here are what some of our guys in Iraq had to say.

I'm deployed in Baghdad right now, and I'm working directly with the hunt for WMD and other banned former regime programs. Frankly nobody here seems to have heard about the President's humorous routine. We're one of the few elements out here to have regular Internet connections at our place of work, and we check the news pretty regularly, but this seems to be a Beltway-insider story that hasn't gotten much attention. I didn't know about it until I read about it in Best of the Web.
While I can't speak for everyone here, I had no problem with the routine. We certainly joke about the hunt for WMD (and especially the failure to find same) all the time. For example, we've posted on our bulletin board the record amount Iraqi con artists have demanded for alleged WMD (currently up to $6 million), amusing quotes from our sources ("I can get the information, but I need a car, a gun and also permission to shoot people please"), caption contests for particularly funny photos of sources and prisoners, and lots of inside jokes that would make no sense to anyone outside the organization.

We joke about the WMD hunt not because we buy into the "BUSH LIED!!!!" conspiracy theories, but because normal people joke about their work. Speaking for myself--and I think many of my colleagues would agree--I was glad to see that the commander in chief also has a sense of humor and can joke about it. What bugs me are leaders who are constantly rigid and serious and don't pause and step back for a lighthearted moment now and then.

Greetings from Camp Wyatt, Iraq. I must say (and I speak for my peers here) that we'd all rather be home with our families. However, we see the need, and are excited to be working with the Iraqi people. The Iraqi people and forces we work with are excited to have us here and are working to make their country a better place.
I am not offended that the president chose that topic to have a little fun with. I can't blame him. This was a long time coming, and Saddam Hussein is ultimately to blame. Those reporters and politicians who scoff at the President for his sense of humor are the same who have been making WMD the central theme in their prosecution of President Bush. So naturally they are angered by it.

Regardless, the president made many arguments for removing Saddam Hussein from power. I don't recall him ever declaring war on the Iraqi people, only declaring that he would remove the tyrant from power. Mission accomplished. Everyone I know here, except for one-dyed-in-the-wool New York Democrat, is voting for President Bush. A vote for the haughty, French-looking, Massachusetts Democrat, who by the way served in Vietnam, is ensuring that the U.S. military becomes an extension of the U.N. If that happens, I will get out, and so will many of my comrades.

My comrades and I have just begun our year tour. We are National Guardsmen from North Carolina, New York, West Virginia, Illinois, Alaska and Ohio. Many of us are excited about the prospect of the coming year. Our view: We are away from home, make the best of it, help where we can, and leave a peaceful country.

One of my favorites

I served in Iraq, and it sucked. The dust storms that sandblasted your skin raw weren't fun. The heat was unbearable. We placed a thermometer in the sun in August, and it registered 157 degrees. At the same time, a thermometer in the shade read 137. Of course, for the most part, it was a dry heat, except I was in the South, and in late August and September, the wind would shift bringing moist air from the Persian Gulf. How about 120-plus and 90% humidity to brighten your day? Oh and the critters--rats, snakes, scorpions and my favorite, the camel spider. They live on the desert floor and have venom that numbs the poor camels they jump up on. After numbing the area, they chow down on the still-alive camel. The locals told me that its normal to see camels walking through the desert and their guts fall out because camel spiders eat their intestinal walls. The camel spiders also don't discriminate--people, camels, it's all the same to them. Did I mention the critters of the microscopic variety? Explosive doesn't do justice to the intestinal issues I encountered. Of course, I almost forgot the AK-47-wielding locals or the imported locals with explosives and rocket-propelled grenades.
Yes sir, it truly sucked. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat! If you could meet the sincerely grateful Iraqis that I helped liberate, you'd understand.

To answer your question, do I care if the president makes a crack about WMDs? Not at all. Based on my experience, I'd be perfectly happy if the president's reason for going to war wasn't WMDs but rather that he was just having a bad day and wanted a piece of Saddam.

I got an email from a friend yesterday that gave a lot of Bush's quotes about Iraq and WMD, with the title "Bush lied, people died". Today I came across this video that's played out like a game show. Evan Coyne Maloney at Brain Terminal went to an anti-war rally and gave the "contestants" a quote about WMD and a multiple choice of who said it. The prize was a waffle or kethcup and the results are really funny.

Court Opens Door To Searches Without Warrants

NEW ORLEANS -- It's a groundbreaking court decision that legal experts say will affect everyone: Police officers in Louisiana no longer need a search or arrest warrant to conduct a brief search of your home or business.

Leaders in law enforcement say it will provide safety to officers, but others argue it's a privilege that could be abused.

The decision was made by the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Two dissenting judges called it the "road to Hell."

The ruiling stems from a lawsuit filed in Denham Springs in 2000.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Capt. Marlon Defillo said the new power will go into effect immediately and won't be abused.

"We have to have a legitimate problem to be there in the first place, and if we don't, we can't conduct the search," Defillo said.

But former U.S. Attorney Julian Murray has big problems with the ruling.

"I think it goes way too far," Murray said, noting that the searches can be performed if an officer fears for his safety -- a subjective condition.

Defillo said he doesn't envision any problems in New Orleans, but if there are, they will be handled.

"There are checks and balances to make sure the criminal justce system works in an effective manor," Defillo said.

I guess this means that the Constitution is just so much toilet paper now, because they just wiped their butts with one of the checks and balances.

"John Kerry, Vietnam War hero." Everyday the media tiptoes around John Kerry as if he is an icon of service to the Nation. But why is his service to the Nation in war not balanced against his return to longhaired freakdom to march against his fellow veterans still in the war, including myself? I was especially incensed when my communist captors quoted him in propaganda.

I had a discussion with Senator Kerry in Bangkok, Thailand. He made some surprising statements during that exchange. He stated emphatically that I should provide him with any information I had on missing Americans. This, he stated, he would take to Hanoi to discuss with the Communists. He didn't seem to understand the Communists knew where the POWs were and needed no help from him to "find them." Expert on war? Hardly! He then stated that no matter what I had there would be no military operation to rescue them. In other words, Senator Kerry felt that Americans were worth talking about, but not worth fighting for.

Kerry brought up his service on patrol boats in Vietnam in a very defensive way with me: "You weren't the only one in that war. I was on those patrol boats." My answer: "Surely you are not attempting to compare anything you did in that war to my contribution to that endeavor!" I did not say that to belittle the Senator, but to only give him a reality check. He said he had an important appointment. The insinuation was it dealt with the MIAs. Then a small child came up to us and said, "My Mom said it is time to go." Kerry sheepishly moved away. "All show and no go!" Just another paper thin ego.

I was invited to lunch by his staffer Francis. She stated in an adoring manner that John Kerry would some day be the President of the United States. My answer was short and succinct. " Based on what?" She said, "He's a war hero." I said, "But he then marched in a filthy uniform and threw his medals over the White House fence." She then told me the medals were someone else's. I merely stated it showed disrespect to honors received on the battlefield by "Someone." End of discussion on that.

Someone in the Asian customs started a rumor that Senator Kerry purchased a tiger skin in Vietnam and officials were told to ignore it. Somehow Vietnam Veterans got the story and, as far as I know, there has never been a denial from the great "environmentalist" John Kerry. But true or not, it gives a good look at how Kerry operates. Take the "war hero" next. Take the "Champion of MIAs" one day and the "We aren't going to war for them" the next day and you have John Kerry.

Senator Kerry threatened to order me before his committee unless I gave him intelligence to carry to Hanoi. My answer? "You do not have to order me before your committee, I'll be there." I waited but, when I called Francis and said I was in America and ready to put the record straight on the rumor about Ross Perot being spread by committee staff, she said: "I'm sorry, Mark. We have run out of money to bring you here." I said: "I have miles to burn and will pay my own way." She said she would discuss it with Kerry and get back to me. I never heard from her or the "War Hero" again. Vietnam Veterans beware. The best way to describe John Kerry's attempts to be all things to all people is, "Heinz 57."

There has been much sniping at President Bush for being a fighter pilot in the Air National Guard. Liberals who seem to believe September Eleventh was somehow our fault and most surely the President's, laugh at his flying to an aircraft carrier to welcome home U.S. Troops. They said he looked silly dressed as a pilot. No candidate for President had more right to dress like that than George Bush; he is a fighter pilot. Where were these people when the draft dodging Clinton wore a "Tanker Jacket" when visiting the troops? A part of a uniform he evaded wearing in time of war. I hope Kerry does not show up to see the troops, if elected, in the ragged field jacket and head band he wore in the peace marches. When time to honor a battlefield hero, I hope he does not have a "flashback" and throw our Nation's highest award over the White House fence. After all, he does think throwing other people's medals over that fence is all right.

Lastly, as Guard and Reserve Troops fight and die for our freedom, I don't want any Commander In Chief who would think their service a joke. Further, if the big time Vietnam Veteran Kerry knew a thing about the Vietnam War, other than how deep the river was, he would know Guard and Reserve Pilots regularly flew combat missions in Vietnam. I for one appreciated the support.

"War Hero?" O.K., he received the Silver Star. But, "Expert" on war? No, John. But those of us who are will take the honest leadership of President Bush anytime over you. You have not changed a bit from the time of the Vietnam War. Your wet finger is still in the air checking the political winds, before making any decision or changing one already made. We are at war and I know war. Your brand of equivocation on every issue costs lives in a war and I don't want more dead and wounded here and abroad. You went to war and then marched against it and those of us who still fought. I know you as "Springtime Patriot" and then as a "Winter Soldier." People should look up what you said during your "Winter Soldier" days. You voted for the present war and now you condemn it. You may be an Ivy League graduate, but your war record is minor league and your leadership is straight out of the "Waffle House." If being President is going to be based on medals earned in battle, there are a whole lot of us in front of you, John Kerry. There is one last thing that places all of your fellow veterans ahead of you in the honor department, with the exception of a few of your fellow "Winter Solders." We had too much respect for our fellow warriors, who fell on the field of battle, to throw even our lowest award over the White House fence. If you keep running on the "warrior ticket," you will lose, sailor! For on that ticket, you are who you have always been.......NOBODY.
